The Founder Guide
A quick guide to what Play Money is, how it helps you raise, and what to expect if your deal lead brings you into the network.
What Play Money is
Most seed-stage founders lose months to fundraising mechanics that have nothing to do with building the company: chasing wire instructions, answering the same investor question five times, and constant cap table clean up.
Play Money exists to remove all of the typical friction that comes with raising from angels. Your angels invest through a single SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) that pools many small checks into one line on your cap table, so you manage one investor instead of fifty.
Our interactive deal memo does the heavy lifting, meaning you spend less time pitching and more time building, and angels can decide faster because it finally feels easy. We handle the SPV formation, KYC, K-1s, tax filings, and every dollar of admin that comes with it, and we're free for founders: the angels cover the fees.
You stay focused on building your company and the raise. We handle the structure and execution.
In short
Play Money helps founders raise faster, without the legal mess, investor confusion, or admin drag of a traditional angel round.
The track record
Here's how we've helped founders on the platform to date:
How Play Money helps you raise
A Play Money SPV runs on infrastructure built for one thing: getting more of your network to say yes, faster, without having to chase investors across five inboxes.
A deal page that converts in real time
Your story, traction, terms, founder video, and social proof, all in one place, built to move someone from curious to committed.
Instant answers to your investors' questions
When an investor finishes reading your deal materials and wonders how your SAFE converts or what your last quarter looked like, they don't want to wait for an email back. Every deal gets its own private AI trained on your deck, memo, and terms. They ask right there on your deal page, and get an instant answer pulled straight from your materials.
From click to funded in less than three minutes
When an investor is ready, the two-step commit-and-fund flow takes them from just a commitment to actual money moved. They can either connect a bank account through Plaid or send a wire, and they're in. No chasing paperwork or “did you get my wire?” emails.
You always know exactly where your SPV stands
A real-time admin portal shows you who's viewed the page, who's committed, and who still needs a nudge, so your follow-ups are targeted instead of a blind blast to your whole list.
Your angels stay in the loop without it becoming a second job
Once you close, our Founder Updates dashboard keeps every investor in the loop for you. We analyze each update and share it in a way that's easier for angels to follow and tied closer to your asks, turning routine updates into a list you can tap anytime you need intros, customers, advice, or a quick gut-check from people who genuinely want to help.
One clean line on your cap table
Fifty angels become a single SPV entry. One signature instead of fifty, and one place where every K-1, tax filing, and piece of admin gets handled without you touching any of it.
How a raise runs, start to close
Here's every step, so you know exactly what's coming and what we need from you at each one.
- 1
Intake form
You fill out a short intake form (which takes about 10 minutes) that gives us the information we need to set up your deal page (info like round details, equity docs, pitch deck, founder info, etc.). If a deal lead or partner is involved, they hand us a deal memo or diligence doc in parallel.
- 2
Record your pitch and Q&A
Depending on the deal, either our team will schedule a recording session or your deal lead will. It will include a short pitch intro, and then a quick Q&A session. We edit the footage into short, punchy clips for your page.
- 3
We build your deal page
Once we have your materials, your first deal-page draft is ready in about 2-3 business days. You review it and request any changes. Every person sharing the deal gets a unique tracking link, so always share the link our team shares with you, never a copy-pasted browser URL.
- 4
Launch and amplify
You launch to your own network and any deal lead's community first. Once checks start landing and the SPV clears its $30K minimum, deals with strong momentum and clear signal can then qualify to be shared more widely across the Play Money network.
- 5
Close
At close, the SAFE is signed between the SPV and your company, and then the funds are wired. From there we handle K-1s, tax filings, and all the ongoing admin.
What you can and can't share
Play Money SPVs are conducted under Regulation D Rule 506(b), which flatly prohibits general solicitation and advertising.
In plain terms: you can only reach out to people you already have a real, pre-existing relationship with, and only through private channels. Even a single public post about an active deal can count as general solicitation, disqualify investors, and put the whole round at risk.
The rule is about who sees it and how, independently of whether or not you include a link. The best test is asking yourself: are you sharing one-to-one with someone you know, or broadcasting to a crowd?
You can share
- A direct message, email, or text to someone you personally know
- The link in a private channel or group chat with people who've already expressed interest in the raise
- One-to-one conversations with investors you have a pre-existing relationship with
You can't share
- Any public social media post including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Threads
- Public forums, subreddits, or open Slack, Discord, or Telegram groups
- Newsletters, press, or mass email blasts to people you don't already know
- Anything visible to the general public, even without a direct link
