Senior Full Stack Engineer + Product Owner

Play Money has delivered the modern commerce experience to Angel investing. We’ve started by helping everyday Angels build diversified startup portfolios without making investing a full-time job, and at just about any budget. Eventually, we will rewire the entire $30B early-stage funding market, doing for deal flow discovery & engagement what AngelList did for back office and transactions. We operate like a $1B fluid fund.

We’ve been live for almost two years. We are deploying more capital per month than a $25M venture fund, and we are consistently growing 10% M/M from organic word of mouth. As we scale, we are looking for a high-velocity Full Stack Engineer to build the engine that powers our next phase of growth.

✨ The Role

You will be the second engineer on the team. You'll work side-by-side with our Head of Engineering & Product, Wasim.

Wasim currently wears the hats of CTO, CPO, and Lead Engineer. You aren't coming in to take tickets from a backlog. You are coming in to double our engineering capacity and operate with that same level of ownership. You will be a core architect of the Play Money platform and ship features that touch every corner of our business. This includes everything from consumer-facing investment tools to the complex backend logic that powers our compliance and finance engine.

You will:

• Act as a "Manager of One": We are a lean, fast-moving team. You won’t have a project manager breaking things down for you. You will take high-level business goals and independently drive them through to production.
• Build across the stack: You will work with Ruby on Rails on the backend, React on the frontend, and React Native for our mobile experience.
• Leverage AI with Architectural Taste: We use tools like Cursor and Claude Code to move fast. However, we don't look for people who blindly trust the output. You will use your deep understanding of software design to direct the AI. You need to spot bad patterns, security flaws, or hallucinations instantly. You treat AI as a tireless junior developer, but you provide the senior engineering intuition.
• Shape the product: You will contribute to product thinking and help us decide what to build, not just how to build it.
• Navigate ambiguity: Priorities change. You will work in both structured and unstructured environments. You need to bring order to chaos and identify technical solutions to business problems without needing a roadmap.

🎓 Who You Are

• You value Intuition + Velocity: You have significant experience building products from zero to scale. You know how software platforms should feel and function. It is this deep experience that allows you to use LLMs effectively. You know exactly what to ask for, and you know immediately when the code isn't up to standard.
• You are a polyglot at heart: Our stack is Rails/React/React Native, but we don’t require 100% prior fluency in them. We care more that you understand modern web frameworks and data structures. If you’re a great engineer, we know you can use your foundational knowledge to hit the ground running in any language.
• Fintech Curious: You don't need a resume full of bank integrations (though that's a nice-to-have). What you do need is a genuine curiosity about how money moves, how markets work, and the mechanics of angel investing. You are excited to learn the domain.
• Resilient & Autonomous: You are comfortable in a fluid environment where things move fast. You view change as an opportunity to iterate, not a distraction. You can own a project from the first line of code to the final deployment.
